Should you relocate? 4 Basic Questions to Ask Yourself

Many people relocate due to a job. Others just decide to move because they want a change of scenery. However, before you just pack up and leave, you should really take time and decide if relocation is the right move for you and your family.

Here are some questions that you might want to ask yourself (and your family) before you relocate.

  • Will you (and the rest of your family) be able to find jobs? Many people only relocate if they have a job offer. If that is the case, you need to make sure that your husband or wife will be able to find a decent job. Otherwise, you both need to make sure that you will be able to find jobs easily (and quickly).

  • Will you be able to find a place to live quickly and easily? Is it going to be convenient to potential jobs? Do you want to rent a place or own your own home? Are there plenty of places to rent or own?

  • How does the cost of living compare to where you live? Will I be able to make enough to live comfortably? Most jobs should pay decently compared to the cost of living but that is not always the case.

  • Am I going to live in a similar location (city/suburbs/farm) or completely different? Where do I want to live? Some people are happy living where they do. Others want a complete change. Which do you prefer?

Relocation should be big decision. You need to make sure that you (and everyone in your family) can find jobs. You also need to make sure that housing is easily available. You should research the cost of living compared to what you will be making. You should also decide whether or not you want to live in a similar location or completely different

These questions can become more clear with the right advice from the help of a relocation services company.  Call Housing Helpers of Colorado if you are considering a relocation to Colorado and one of our friendly relocation specialists will be happy to assist you.

Colorado’s Business Leaders Have High Expectations in New Year

According to a recent report from the University of Colorado Boulder’s Leeds School of Business, business leaders have come into 2014 with positive expectations for the state and national economies. Confidence is up concerning other measurable categories in Colorado as well, including industry sales, industry profits, hiring plans, and capital expenditures.

The latest round of positive expectations marks nine quarters in a row in which panelists in Colorado have expressed an overall good feeling about the state, the report stated. This ties the record for optimism set in 2003-2005. Business leaders continue to be more positive about the local economy than the national one, however, though even the national economy received a more positive outlook going into the new year.

The latest data suggests that Colorado’s employment numbers continue to increase for the 38th straight month and that personal income growth in the state has outpaced the national average. The highest areas of employment growth in the state over the past year came from the metropolitan statistical areas of Greeley (+4.5%); Denver-Aurora-Broomfield (+2.5%); Boulder and Pueblo (each at +1.5%). According to the report, the industries recording the highest employment gains were Professional & Business Services, Education and Health Services, and Construction.

58.5% of the business leaders surveyed for the report stated that they felt confident that Colorado’s economy will expand this year. 47.9% stated that they expect business profits to increase and 55.7% expect to see an increase in sales this year.

Housing Helpers is pleased to see that Colorado’s business leaders are starting the year off confident and that the economy continues to move in a positive direction. With more and more jobs being created here and personal wealth growing as it is, the future looks bright for our state. If you’re planning to move to Colorado, let us find the perfect home for you. The Colorado real estate market, seven reasons why the future is bright

Buying a home is always about more than just the house. It is about finding a community that offers job opportunities, good schools, and quality businesses and recreation. A recent report from the University of Colorado Leeds Business School shows that Colorado is clearly one of those places, and is set to have some of the fastest job growth in the nation in the upcoming year. With a diversified job base, skilled and well-educated workforce and stellar quality of life, Colorado is one state that has a strong outlook for its long-term economic health.

What light does this report shed on the Colorado real estate market and Colorado homes for sale?

Here are seven reasons we think the future of the Colorado real estate market is bright:

  • Colorado is expected to increase in population in 2014, one of the fastest growing states in the nation.

  • Colorado increased job growth in 2013 at a rate higher than in the last ten years.

  • Colorado had increased housing sales activity and increased prices in the for-sale housing market in 2013

  • The Colorado rental market experienced historically low vacancy rates and increased average rents in 2013.

  • Foreclosures in Colorado have slowed as the overall state and national economy improves.

  • Federal housing and finance policy continue to impact both consumer confidence and the strength of the overall housing market.

  • Colorado and the Denver metro area continue to be selected and publicized as highly desirable regions to live and work.

Relocation, make a plan for a smoother process

Relocating for a corporate position or personal reasons is never an easy decision and can be an even more difficult process.  There are dozens of concerns that come into play including cost of living change, rating of schools, commuting time to work, impact on family, even change in climate.  The list goes on.  There are ways to make the process just a little bit easier on yourself and your family.

Ask for help

Asking for help is rarely easy.  We often forget help is available.  Don’t be shy.  If you are relocating for work, contact your human resource department for assistance.  They often will have some idea of where the majority of their employees live (and why), the quality of the schools and daycare, where to find shopping and entertainment, and other local insights.   If you are relocating for family or adventure, you might also consider a visit to your local library and ask for city resources.  Libraries are rooted in the community and pride themselves on related resources.

Other helpful stops include:

  • Chamber of Commerce
  • Visitor Guides
  • Local Museums
  • On line Relocation Guides
  • Real Estate websites

Make a Plan

Having a plan before you land in your new town will help you maintain stability.  Decide what is important to you and your family and add related points to your plan.  For example, if you have medical concerns, you may want to locate a related specialist in the area and ensure that your new home is close by.  If your child is a budding ballerina, you will want to ensure that a local studio is accessible nearby.  Here are a few additional bullet points to get your plan started.

  • Perform an internet search and locate schools, childcare, or camps you would like to visit and set up  appointments.
  • Visit relocation company websites like and make appointments to view the houses and apartments in your areas of interest.
  • Locate the local library, community centers, and chamber of commerce for future research.
  • Don’t forget to spend some time exploring and experiencing the area.  Nothing will tell you more than a drive or walk around a city.
  • Invest in an area tour.  If you are working with a relocation company or real estate company chances are they offer area tours.    A half day or full day area tour often is just enough to get you basic knowledge of neighborhoods and the lay of the land.

Your personal situation will change the points of interest on your list.  It is important that you go in with at least a loosely developed plan to serve as a springboard.

Monitor Expectations

Your expectations can set you up for failure in one way or another.  Research regarding the city and state you are moving to.  Understand the basics of the area you are moving to.  This is includes average climate, crime rate, and availability of your favorite food.  Know what you are getting yourself into.  Cultivating a clear view of your new city, will help you manage your expectations for the area.

Moving to a new area is never easy.  The steps above can help make the process a little easier.  If you are planning a relocation we can help you.  Housing Helpers has offices in Boulder Colorado, Denver, and Las Vegas, and provides relocation services throughout Colorado and Nevada.  Our relocation services include area tours, home finding assistance, temporary housing, real estate, and rental locating.  Contact us for help with your next relocation.
